With support from the City of Bakersfield and The Kern Women’s Business Center, The Chamber encourages residents to shop local and early.
Bakersfield, Calif. (Nov. 20, 2023) – Today, the Greater Bakersfield Chamber, announced the launch of its “Shop Local, Shop Now” (SLSN) holiday campaign at the Brimhall Square Shopping Center. With the support of the City of Bakersfield and the Kern Women’s Business Center, the campaign encourages Bakersfield residents to shop local, shop early and actively support local businesses throughout the holiday season and beyond.
As the trend of early holiday shopping continues to grow, Hillary Haenes, the Chamber’s Interim President and CEO, stressed the importance of supporting local, “It’s not just about beating the holiday rush; it’s about spreading out budgets and lending vital support to our local businesses,” said Haenes.
Shopping locally not only strengthens the local economy but also enables residents to choose products with a lower carbon footprint, minimal packaging waste and eco-friendly options. Chamber members offer diverse gifts, emphasizing personal customer experiences through real human interaction.
In individual speeches, Bakersfield Mayor Karen Goh and Kern Women’s Business Center Program Director, Norma Dunn stated how honored and thrilled they are to support this impactful campaign.
“Your choice to shop locally goes beyond a single transaction,” said Goh. “It’s a powerful investment in realizing small business dreams and the economic prosperity of our community as a whole.”
The shoplocalshopnow.com website includes an interactive map that lists all Chamber members in retail, restaurant and hospitality categories. The Chamber will also be promoting Shop Local, Shop Now on its digital and social media platforms through the month of December. For those enthusiastic about actively participating in the campaign, both shoppers and business owners are invited to use the hashtags #ShopLocalShopNow and #BakoChamber on their social media channels to share their local shopping experiences and to highlight businesses.
Chamber members are specifically encouraged to visit shoplocalshopnow.com/resources/ to access and download the Shop Local, Shop Now social media kit. This kit serves as a fantastic tool to foster collaboration and sharing within the local business community.
